Waiting and Praying

Around 4 p.m. today, the neurosurgeon met with Byron and family in CCU.  Byron's strength in his left arm has gradually improved today, which is a positive sign that bleeding may be subsiding. The doctors want Byron to get good rest, get the swelling down, and continue to stabilize.  When they feel he is ready, they will schedule surgery to remove the mass.  Currently, there is no indication as to how soon this will be - however the general feeling is that they want to proceed as quickly as possible when they believe he is stable.  This afternoon they are performing a vascular test, which will help gauge the current status of the bleeding.  The doctors have indicated that they have no idea as to the origin/classification of the mass.  They will not know this information until surgery is complete and test results are back.  Until that time, please continue to pray for strength, guidance and healing for Byron. The family is extremely grateful for your prayers.  We do ask that you please be sensitive to the request on behalf of the family and the hospital to help Byron get stronger by refraining from visits and calls.

Here's an excerpt from the lyrics of one of the songs that Byron had chosen a few weeks ago for yesterday's worship service:

"Blessed be Your Name"
by Matt Redman

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

Later this afternoon, the nurses in CCU posted a notice on Byron's door that all visitors need authorization from the on duty nurse before they enter his room. Byron's heart for the people who were coming to see him was great, but he was not getting the rest he needs.

Another note is that the girls know little of what is going on with their dad. They are off to visit friends in Palm Springs for a few days, which is a blessing. We will want to be sure they find out in the best possible way, from their mom and dad, when they are ready and when there is something they will understand.

God is good. I keep telling myself that and am trying desperately to believe it. B & B, you're in my prayers and my thoughts. Blessings ...

Brenda, Byron, Floyd, Adella and family-
How many times the Lord has sent me to the bedsides of precious brothers and sisters to minister comfort to them through nursing care! How I wish I could give this gift to you now, Byron, but it has been handed to others. Nevertheless, I beleive with all my heart that you are in the best of hands, for He Who calls nurses to this ministry, places them in just the right place at just the right time. Perhaps the ones who care for you are members of God's family and are there to minister, and perhaps they are non-believers who will see Christ in you and our church family. In this season, let Him lay you gently down in the lush green pasture and bathe you in the cool, still water; let Him renew your souls. Blessed be the Name of the Lord, Whose ways are infinitely higher than our ways! We love you all so dearly, and send prayers to Abba, Father all day long for your healing.

Byron and Brenda,

The Bible contains many wonderful lyrics, but I remember this one in particular from when I was in high school (We have been praying this for you as a blessing) - "'For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,' says the Lord, who has mercy upon you." (Isaiah 54:10). We are praying that you are intensely aware of God's kindness, peace, and mercy in this time. We love you so much!

We love you and the girls. You are in our constant thoughts and prayers. I almost lost Mario 10/11/01 and God was there...along with a visit from Dave and Cindi at just the right time. We are your family. Mario says "don't think this is going to get you out of the massage I owe you Bryon." :-) We will always remember Bryon singing our song at our 10th renewal of vows...and Brenda bringing the girls to help clean up all the little shiny hearts off the carpet of the sanctuary. Singing with you has been a privelidge and honor, we are blessed with your talent and gifts of music and ministry. May the Lord hold you in the hollow of his hand and bless you,

Love,

The Licus

I can't get you off of my mind since I heard. I hope you're getting the rest you need - all of you! We know first hand how scarey this can be and the strain it puts on a family but also the PEACE that He can give you thru it all. You are certainly in our prayers.

I think of you often and our time together at Lakewood. Those were some of the best times of ministry.
We have shared a lot of "stuff" together and I want you to know that we will be in prayer for you daily that God will work mightily in your life.

Dear Byron, Brenda, Lexi & Anya,

If we aren't allowed to visit so Byron gets his rest, that's ok...the sign didn't say "no praying," so we won't. Couldn't make us anyway. I know God is already with you, comforting you, healing you, He is mighty and amazing.

Dearest Byron, Brenda, Floyd, and Adela,

During times of trial, the waiting seems unbearable. A wise friend once told me, "God's delay is not God's denial". This helps me to remember that God's plan and timing are perfect - even when I do not understand.

I am praying for you with every breath. I know that God has His hand on each of you and is providing you with His comfort, strength, and patience even before you ask for it! I am also asking the Lord to provide you rest and peace during the wait.

We love you guys!

I miss you guys so much and wish that I could be there for support...I will follow the requests and just follow the blog and get it touch when the Lord completes His healing. Our family is praying that it will be soon! Know that we love you and rest in the Lord!
