- Eric McClenahan
Most of you know that I'm a ridiculous fan of music. I love listening to it, singing it, and especially writing it! Every once and a while a song grabs me. And when a song grabs me...it dominates me. There are some songs in my life that every time I listen to them I either shed a tear or explode with joy. I still have yet to listen Travis Cottrell's arrangement of "In Christ alone" without shedding at least one tear. Its not necessarily a common experience, nor is it generally a specific type of music or genre. Its kind of the whole beauty is in the eye of the beholder thing...they just grab me.
The other day a song absolutely did a number on my heart. It was Chris Tomlin's new song "God of this city." The words to the chorus are:
"Greater things have yet to come,
and greater things are still to be done
In this city"
Man, I was floored by those lyrics. What a huge sense of responsibility, yet such a great promise at the same time. Are we as a church doing our part to impact our city? Are we reaching? Are we serving? It was awesome singing in the choir this past weekend and seeing the sea of faces service after service. Certainly God has blessed our church and great things have happened. But greater things have yet to come, and greater thing are still to be done at Montrose Church. Are you on board?
The problem with songs is they are just songs. Lets make this song a reality. I cry every time I hear it, imagine what it would be like to see it.
